Sparta VS Athens
Both Athens and Sparta had an Assembly, which members were elected by the people. In Sparta, it was ruled by two kings. The two kings remain as rulers until they died or until they get kicked out. In Athens, there were elections annually. The main difference between Athens and Sparta was that in Athens it follows a democracy and in Sparta it follows a hierarchy.
The life in Sparta was simple, their main focus was war. Men were trained at a very young age to fight for the military. Young boys were trained to be warriors; young girls were trained to be mothers of warriors. The Athenian life was a less fighting and more learning. Athenian could get a good education and could pursue any of several kinds of arts or sciences. Unlike Sparta the people of Athens had a chose of serving in the army/navy or not, so you are not forced to like Sparta

The two main battles that these two had against the Persians were the Battle of Marathon and the Battle of Thermopylae. At first Sparta didn’t want to fight the Persians, but all of that changed after the Athenians won in the Battle of Marathon. During this battle Athens had asked Sparta for help but they didn’t because of a festival there were having. This was just an excuse because they didn’t want to help Athens. Even without Sparta’s help, Athens was able to beat the Persians. Soon after, the Persians tried to attack again and it was the Battle of Thermopylae, this battle was led by King Leonidas. This time Sparta inspired other Greek city state to fight back too. Athens and Sparta was able to work together for once during the Battle of Plataea where the Greeks crushed the Persians and end the invasion.
After the Persians left, Athens came up with an idea that all the city states should pitch in money to make a better army to stop the Persians if they ever come back again. Instead of using that money for what it suppose to do, Athens use some of it to build the Parthenon and other things to make Athens look better.
Athens loved to control everything, not only Greece but everything around them. Whenever anything happens Athens would be the first one to join in. The main thing Athens controlled was the Delian League. On the other hand, Sparta likes to keep things to itself and only will provide assistance or help to other Greek city state when necessary or if they have to. Since the two city state had soo much in difference, it led to many wars between the two. One main one was the Peloponnesian War, which lasted from 431 to 404 BC. In the first few years, Athens had the lead because of the great leadership of Pericles, but soon after Sparta took the lead since Pericles died from the plague that hit Athens. Sparta won the war, but since they had honor, they refused to burn the Athens down.
